Power Of affirmations - Guest blog

The true power to be, to have or to do anything you want in life is within you. It all begins and with a “thought”.  I am a true believer in the power of “affirmations” and “visualizations”, I know because I have experienced in my own life that they really do work.  This is one story which I am honored to share with you in hope that it will help someone to achieve their dreams through the same methods that I have used and continue to use today.

It was December 1996, I was a thirty-something year old banker working for a large international bank in New York City.  While I was quite successful at my position in the bank, both professionally and financially, deep down inside I knew I just wasn’t “happy”.  Life became a bit monotonous and predictable. Now, some people would say (and they did) that this was a good thing. All was going well, why change anything? But I thought life should be more of an adventure. This is when I began to search a bit within and ask myself, so what is it that I want right now if I could change things.

I decided, what I needed and wanted at this time in my life was an “adventure”, yes, I need to shake up my life a bit.  I had always loved to travel but one part of the world that I had never been to and knew little about was Asia.  Being somewhat conservative, I didn’t just want to quit my “perfect” job and travel around Asia. And there were bills to pay!  No, I decided that I would just find a job in Asia.  Perhaps, Singapore would be nice, as I had heard good things about Singapore.

OK, well now I had an “idea” or “goal” that I knew I wanted to achieve but how was I going to make this happen? I had never been to Asia. I didn’t know anyone in Asia or Singapore that could help me.

This is where the “Universe” stepped in with a little help. I stumbled upon a wonderful and magical little book called “Creative Visualization” (Shakti Gawain).  “Creative Visualization” is the term often used to refer to using “mental imagery” and “affirmations” to create that which you want to “attract” or produce in your life.  I decided I would try a little experiment in using “affirmations” and “visualizations”. (After all, I had nothing to lose, right?)  I made a decision and a “commitment” that for thirty consecutive nights, I would meditate and use “affirmations” and “visualization”, every night to attract and receive “two job” offers in Singapore. (I decided it always good to have a choice and I so I requested “two” job offers not just “one”).

So night after night, for thirty days, just before going to sleep, I would first go into a relaxed meditative state, and thereafter I would start my affirmations.  The affirmations I used were: “Everything I need comes to me easily and effortlessly. Love comes to me easily and effortlessly. Financial abundance comes to me easily and effortlessly.” I would finish off my affirmations by repeating a number of times, “ I now have two wonderful job offers in Singapore”. I would then take a few minutes and visualize receiving these job offers and see myself being very excited and happy about them.  I did this for thirty days, and mind you it was difficult some nights when you came home late and you just want to hit the pillow and go to sleep.

But I made that commitment to myself to do this for thirty days and I did. Before the thirty days was even finished, over a period of a couple of weeks interesting events and “synchronicities” started to appear.  I received a resume from a woman who was applying for a position on my team in New York and she had returned from Asia, where she worked for a bank in Singapore.

A Human Resource Consulting Firm that I had used in the past to hire candidates periodically also called me and asked if I had any openings as someone that they knew who was a New Yorker had been working in Singapore for two years and he was now ready to return back to New York.  Never before had anyone ever mentioned Singapore to me and now in a short time span of a couple of weeks, possible contacts were being provided to me.

To make a long story short, I hired the woman who previously worked in Singapore, she later provided me with contacts in Singapore. After finishing my thirty day “affirmation” and “visualization” exercise, I took two weeks off from work and went to visit Singapore on my own.  In Singapore, I looked up the contacts the woman I hired in New York provided me with and I also looked up the New York fellow who was still working in Singapore and wanted to return to New York (even though I didn’t know him.)  I was in Singapore less than two weeks and before I left I had two job offers!!  Not only did I receive the “two offers” that I affirmed and visualized but also financially they provided me with an increase in salary.  Was this all due to mere coincident?

Some may argue that this is so.  But to those of us that have used “affirmations” and “visualization” techniques and we see the requested results again and again, we know that there is a much more powerful underlying force here at work and that the “spark” that ignites that force is within us. It is- you, your beliefs, your thoughts, what you focus your attention on and your self talk.  The energy that we throw out to the world has creative power.

That power is within all of us, we just need to focus our energy and our attention in a positive way and the best way I’ve found to do this is by using “affirmations” and “visualization” during meditation.  Thereafter, just follow the doors of opportunities that the universe will open up to you!  And enjoy and be thankful for the journey!

Love & Light to all,

Veronica

Dear Veronica, thank you for sharing this very beautiful blog with us. I come from Singapore and was happy to read about your experiences.

When I was young, i used to visualise about doing well in a language exam. I did this because I suffered from severe anxiety attacks. Everyday I would visualise getting an A (a top grade) for the exam. I would listen to music and visualise doing very well. I also studied very hard. I went for the exam and I had a massive anxiety attack and my body fell very sick. But two months later when the results came out for the langauge exam, I was one of three students in the whole school who scored an A for the exam. They were very shocked because the other two were straight A students but I was just an ordinary student. That is when I first realised the power of visualisation.

But sadly as an older person now, my health has taken a toll from all the anxiety attacks. As a result, I have lost my confidence. I feel sad to have to constantly struggle for things that come natrually for others. I miss the days when I was young and brave like that.

I really appreciate your blog, Veronica. May you go on to achieve your dreams in life.
((((Hugs)))) ( Never loose that love to try something different, to make life an adventure and the journey more fun.)

Veronica,

This is so very true, thank you very much for that blog. I used visualisation techniques when I was in school also for my exams, I would not only visualise the grade I wanted but the exact percentage, I would write it down and look at it everyday and when the time came that I got my results back, not only did i have th grade i visualised but I had the exact percentage I had been visualising also.

The power of visualisation is amazing.

This book by Shakti Gawain is one of my "Bible": I refer to it really often, and I offered it to friends a lot of time (in France, it exists in a small format that costs less than 4euros !).
It changed my life.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. It was EXACTLY what I needed to be reminded of today.

Thank you :)

To conclude Empowerment Week:

The 'Meaning of Life'

We are all born equal,
Is that not so;
But how do we know this,
How can we know?

Imagine a diamond
Inside our heart
Unpolished, discoloured
Shining in part.

The more we help others
To learn and love,
The more that our diamond
Shines above;

It takes many lifetimes
To reach the stage
Where our tiny diamond
Lights up the page.

Our soul is our diamond,
Our love of life;
Grows deep inside us
Releasing strife.

Our soul grows much brighter,
Reflecting rays;
Revealing our talents
So many ways.

Harmony with nature,
A course now run;
A lifetime of journeys
Ends now - it's done!

***
Lisa, you are this gem,
You radiate light;
You have such insight.

You, have opened my heart
And the door to my soul,
And now I feel whole.

You, speak to our loved ones,
Precious moments we share,
Whenever you're there.

These, poems are simple,
Their message is clear, you're
A 'treasure to share'!

Dear Lisa, Veronica and all the dear people here, hi, just wanted to share some words with you all at the end of empowerment week.
These words are by the late British statesman, Winston Churchill,

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal; It is the courage to continue that counts".

Bye. Thanks for allowing me to share. And Dear Lisa, you will always be very special to me. ((((Hugs)))) love you lots. :-)

Dear Veronica,
What a wonderful story. I will definitely be buying the book, sounds great! And thank you everyone else for your stories as well. Susanna, your poem is beautiful and very true. Lisa, everyone loves you so much. You have touched lives all over the world in so many ways. I don't think you realise just how much. I hope your new TV show is going to be screened in South Africa as well and it would be awesome to have you visit us as well.... apparently we have the BEST Cadbury's chocolate, so that should be a good incentive. Some of my friends who have lived in America for over 20 years, when they return to SA on holiday, take back Cadbury's with them, even for their sons who have been born in America. I also lived in the UK for two years and I must brag and say our Cadbury's is the best... the Creamiest bar by far!! Then of course we have our beautiful country, with mountains, forests, winelands nestled in amongst more mountains, miles of white sandy beaches and lots of sun. So don't forget us here please Lisa. We are 5 hours drive from Cape Town and will drive there for sure. Much love, Jeanette
